Love For My City!
My business grew out of my love for my city, the city of New Orleans. I was born and raised here, but I had been living in Texas for 5 years prior to moving back in May of 2005. Little did I know that I would be moving back with my husband and at the time 2 small children, during one of the most tumultuous times in our city's history. Hurricane Katrina changed everything!
The initial shock for everyone was beyond anything that I can put into words here, but the change really came in the years after in the rebuilding of the city. It is amazing to me to be writing this almost 7 years later and to be able to see the tremendous growth the city has undergone. It is not without a lot of hard work and sacrifice, but I think New Orleans is better than it has ever been!
So what does that have to do with how I got started? Well I never thought I would get into the business of fashion and design, even though I have a great love for soaking up the newest and latest fashion ideas and trends, but my business really got its start from a simple design idea for a scarf. The Saints were in the middle of their unbelievable run to the Superbowl in 2009 and I came up with a scarf idea that benefited from that historic run!
Talk about rejuvenation! What better way to revitalize and provide added incentives for a city still trying to pick itself up out of the wreckage that was Katrina, than to win the Superbowl! It was magical and it gave a new found emphasis to what it means to be a New Orleanian! It gave the residents something to rally around and once again feel connected, as well as a sense of pride. Proud to call New Orleans home!
So that is how my shop got it's start. I wanted to show the world my Love For My City! Whether through my scarves or through my t-shirt designs, the majority of which show some sort of love for what makes this city so unique and special, I wanted to visualize that love. With that as a foundation, I have been able to grow my business into other designs, like my ALPHA Line and my other bracelets.
If you have never been to New Orleans, I hope you find a way to come see what truly makes this so different than any place else! Come see what makes us love it!
